Saint-Estèphe.

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, and 12% Petit Verdot.

Château Meyney is a St Estephe that has the particularity to be located at the centre of a single block vineyard of 51 hectares. Looking down the Gironde, the estate is protected from frosts due to the proximity of the estuary. The vines are an average age of 35 to 40 years, divided between 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. Ch. Meyney has for decades represented one of the best values in the world. It still does and it’s a wonder it’s still as lowly priced as it is. It’s next door to Montrose and has a nose reminiscent of its illustrious neighbour.

Jane Anson: 94/100
Often a benchmark wine for me in a vintage, and it is a good sign for the Left Bank in 2023 that Meyney is tasting great. A punch of inky plum and blackberry fruit, good lift and freshness, plenty of tannic grip, an excellent wine. A buy. CA Grands Crus owners.

Neil Martin - Vinous: 89-91/100
The 2023 Meyney is surprisingly backward on the nose with blackberry, kirsch, touches of black pepper and loamy aromas. It remains understated in the glass yet gains purity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Maybe a little conservative in style, it stays within the confines of the vintage yet feels harmonious. What is missing is just a bit of grip and density on the finish. Fine.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Wine Independent: 89-91/100
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 Meyney needs a lot of shaking to wake up scents of cassis and fresh raspberries giving way to an undercurrent of sassafras, cedar, and dried herbs. The medium-bodied palate is lively and light on its feet, with soft, well-managed tannins and a spicy kick to the finish.
