Pessac-Léognan, Third Growth.
65% sauvignon blanc and 35% semillon.
The second wine of The Domaine de Chevalier. The Domaine de Chevalier is a great name that inevitably comes to mind when we think of Pessac-Léognan wines. It is based on a 45-hectare vineyard planted on gravel with clay-gravel subsoils. The red grape varieties (40 ha) are 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet franc. The white grape varieties (5 ha) are 70% Sauvignon blanc and 30% Sémillon.

I like the texture here. It’s polished and seamless with vivid acidity and a gentle phenolic edge to it. Medium-bodied with fresh, fleshy fruit. Spice and citrus peel bitterness at the end. It’s vibrant and very attractive already. Flinty. 65% sauvignon blanc and 35% semillon.

The 2023 L'Esprit de Chevalier Blanc offers crisp sea-spray scents on the nose, complemented by Granny Smiths and light kiwi notes. The palate is very well balanced with a keen line of acidity. Notably saline on the entry, it possesses impressive depth, turning quite spicy with touches of white pepper on the persistent finish. This is one of those Deuxième Vins where you think: "Cor blimey…what's the Grand Vin like?"
